Irrigation Technician

Position Summary

Performs skilled irrigation system installation, troubleshooting, and repair while leading and working alongside park maintenance crews to maintain athletic fields, parks, and grounds in safe, high-quality condition. Provides daily direction to assigned staff and ensures efficient, safe completion of work assignments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Irrigation Systems

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain irrigation systems (controllers, valves, heads, wiring, pumps)
• Program and adjust irrigation timers for seasonal and weather conditions
• Diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues
• Perform system winterization and startup procedures
• Maintain irrigation parts inventory and recommend replacements

Park & Athletic Field Maintenance

• Maintain turf, athletic fields, and landscaped areas
• Operate mowers, tractors, aerators, spreaders, and other equipment
• Assist with fertilization, weed control, and basic turf management practices
• Support field lining and preparation for games and tournaments

Crew Leadership

• Provide daily work direction to assigned crew members
• Monitor quality of work and ensure tasks are completed efficiently
• Promote safe work practices and ensure proper equipment use
• Train staff in irrigation and grounds maintenance procedures
• Report maintenance needs and project updates to supervisor

Equipment & Safety

• Operate trucks, trailers, and maintenance equipment
• Perform basic preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
• Follow all safety protocols and county policies

Pay: $20.18 per hour
