Groundskeeper II

General Definition of Work

Performs difficult semiskilled work supervising and participating in the functions required to maintain operational, safe, and visually appealing outdoor facilities along with related structures and equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned duties. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in contact with various school officials. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Grounds Manager.

Qualification Requirements

* High school diploma or GED required, courses in irrigation design and turfgrass management preferred. * Hold or obtain North Carolina Class A CDL within 12 months of employment. Must maintain a safe driving record. * Possess valid pesticide license upon employment. * Experience in operation and maintenance of grounds equipment: tractors; loaders; dump trucks; back hoe; skid steer; dingos; and small engine equipment such as hedge trimmers, chain saws, blowers, pressure washers, etc. * General knowledge of grounds maintenance and operations: irrigation systems, athletic field, turf maintenance, herbicides and pesticides, fence installation/repair, concrete and asphalt repair, pruning and trimming shrubs and trees. * General knowledge of safety precautions applicable to grounds maintenance. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to work in extreme climate conditions. * Ability to work without full time supervision. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. * Some knowledge of computers and electronic devices. Experience in irrigation system maintenance and installation and turfgrass management preferred. *
