Assistant Groundskeeper

Job Overview

The East Troy Community School District has an opportunity for a full-time Assistant Groundskeeper. An Assistant Groundskeeper helps maintain the grounds and helps to maintain the physical plant facilities in a condition of operating excellence and safety so that full educational and public use of them may be made at all times. The nature of the tasks within this job description will require independent decision making and the ability to work unsupervised.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Cut lawn using hand, power mower, and riding mower
• Trim and edge around walks, flower beds with clippers, weed cutters and edging tools
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth
• Rake and bag leaves
• Clean grounds and remove litter
• Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as needed
• Water lawn and shrubs as needed
• Assist in repairing fences, gates, bleachers, playgrounds, and ball parks as needed
• Paint fences and playgrounds as directed
• Assist in marking all fields and parking lots
• Perform snow removal and salting
• Serve as a substitute custodian for the day shift as needed
• Serve as a substitute bus driver as needed, if CDL-licensed
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings & Grounds

NECESSARY SKILLS/ABILITIES AND TEMPERAMENTS

• Knowledge of plant types, fertilizers, and best practices for sustainable grounds maintenance
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
