The incumbent supports landscape design and planning for current and long-range initiatives under the direction of the Landscape Manager. Responsibilities include reviewing landscape plans for new development, advising the public on requirements, and assisting with construction oversight and inspections. The role also prepares plans, reports, and related documents, coordinates projects with internal teams and consultants, and collaborates across Community Development while supporting landscape initiatives for Parks and Recreation, Library, and Open Space and Trails.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

• Assist in reviewing and analyzing development applications and provide both formal and informal feedback on landscape and open space designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes, plans, and Wildfire Urban Interface requirements.
• Support the creation and maintenance of user-friendly guidance documents (e.g., checklists, design guides, plant lists) outlining landscape standards, submission requirements, and review processes.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, and ongoing monitoring of landscaping, irrigation, and open space improvements across project phases to ensure alignment with approved plans and city requirements.
• Attend and support pre-application, pre-construction, and other coordination meetings with city staff, developers, contractors, and external agencies.
• Help respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from the public regarding development-related landscaping and open space issues.
