Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Grounds Maintenance Worker.

Perform preventive maintenance and general upkeep of landscaped and turfed areas; roads and walkways; parking lots; lakes, streams, and watersheds; playing fields and recreational facilities; and minor construction related thereto.

Duties/Responsibilities

Performs semi skilled landscaping, grounds maintenance, and roads maintenance tasks in a multi building University complex. This is semi skilled labor calling for a working knowledge of the care of trees, turf, and plants together with some knowledge of maintenance of roads, outdoor facilities, and playing fields using grounds related machinery. This is semi skilled labor calling for operation of trucks, tractors, and powered machines as well as hand tools. All work is directed and inspected by Grounds Maintenance Workers III and Supervisors.

* Uses vehicles, tractors, machinery, and hand tools to do seeding, sodding, aerating, weeding, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming turfed and planted areas. * Assists a certified grounds maintenance worker in applying chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides to trees, shrubs and turf. * Operates machines and uses hand tools to maintain and develop outdoor facilities to include playing fields, shelter houses, fences, picnic areas, campgrounds, recreation facilities, fishing areas, nature trails, and fences. * Plants and prunes trees and shrubs. * Cleans and maintains vehicles and equipment. * Uses hand tools to maintain and develop outdoor facilities to include playing fields, shelter houses, picnic areas, campgroun...
