Position Summary

Coleman Environmental Engineering is seeking a highly qualified Utility Master Arborist to support PG&E's Vegetation Management Program. This position is responsible for conducting expert-level field evaluations and delisting reviews of trees identified for vegetation management work. The Utility Master Arborist will determine whether trees meet established criteria for removal from the work program based on current conditions, arboricultural best practices, and PG&E requirements.

This role requires advanced technical expertise in tree biology, tree risk assessment, and utility vegetation management, along with the ability to make sound, defensible professional determinations in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections and evaluations of trees identified within PG&E vegetation management programs.
• Assess tree health, structure, defects, species characteristics, and site conditions to determine delisting eligibility.
• Perform professional tree risk evaluations and document findings supporting delisting recommendations.
• Prepare accurate and defensible documentation using PG&E-approved software and mobile data collection platforms.
• Capture and maintain supporting photographs, notes, and field records.
• Ensure all evaluations comply with PG&E standards, utility vegetation management requirements, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with PG&E representatives, project managers, quality assurance personnel, and vegetation management staff.
• Participate in quality control reviews and provide technical expertise regarding delisting decisions.
• Maintain productivity, accuracy, and safety standards while working independently in field environments.

Required Qualifications

• ISA Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA) – Required
• ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) – Required
• Minimum of 5 years of professional arboriculture, utility forestry, vegetation management, or related experience.
• Extensive knowledge of tree biology, tree health assessment, species identification, and tree risk evaluation.
• Strong understanding of utility vegetation management practices and vegetation-related risk factors.
• Experience conducting field inspections and preparing technical documentation.
• Ability to make independent, defensible arboricultural determinations.
• Proficiency with tablets, GPS technology, GIS mapping systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Utility vegetation management experience supporting electric utilities.
• Previous experience working on PG&E vegetation management programs.
• California tree species expertise.
• Experience with vegetation management quality assurance or auditing processes.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk extended distances over uneven terrain and steep slopes.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to travel throughout assigned territories as needed.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles and field equipment.
